Bhutan Photo Workshop August 2015!
Plenty fantastic photography experiences- but be prepared to also be photographed!
Isolated in the Himalayas for centuries and untouched by mass tourism, Bhutan is a hidden gem for photographers.
"Set out into the kingdom of Bhutan to shoot images of its welcoming people, exquisite temples, timeless farming villages, and the towering Himalaya. Capture scenes from a lively market or crimson-robed monks against a backdrop of whitewashed dzongs. Capture the spirit of happiness in the smile of kids, in an archery game and the celebration of ancient ceremonies. Practice your photographic skills while learning about Gross National Happiness and discovering this breathtaking country"

On this workshop I will be travelling with Alvaro Moreno, an expert on tourism and sustainable travels... He spent a year working for the tourist authorities in Bhutan and knows the place better then most.. In addition, there will be a local English speaking guide who will help us navigate through some of the major sites worth photographing!

 Itinerary:

11 August – Latest day to depart towards Kathmandu (contact us for other cities). Earlier departures possible.

12 August – Arrival to Kathmandu. Warm-up photo session in the historical city centre.

13-19 August – Photo workshop in Bhutan.

19 August – Departure to Kathmandu and day tour.
Depending on flight schedules, sightseeing might be possible. For those who continue back to Europe, night flight to country of origin.

20 August – Arrival to city of origin.

Daily planning

The workshop will be mostly hands-on. Every day in Bhutan will include a new visit and plenty of photo opportunities. The guide will explain what and where we will visit, the photographer will explain what we will focus on and give some guidance on how to approach the new photo opportunity. The goal will be to improve your photography skills and bring with you a nice portfolio from Bhutan at the end of the trip.

Level of the workshop

This workshop is perfect for beginners as well as advanced amateurs who want to get better at travel and reportage photography. Other travellers or partners of participants who want to discover Bhutan are also welcomed to join and whenever possible some alternative visits might be arranged, although they will mostly have to adapt to the rhythm of the group.

March 3rd- Portrait & People, Geneva Sold out!

So, in the beginning of March, we will run the second in a new series of workshops: the place is the same and the deal is the same. Hotel Royal, near the train station in Geneva and will include linch and a few coffee/ snack breaks.

New York- Top of the Rock
Program

08:00: Introduction and meeting at Hotel Royal, Rue de Lausanne, Geneva.

The morning program includes introductory coffee and presentation of the day's activities.
We start with a brief introduction to the camera followed by portraiture using available light. The idea is that you will learn techniques so that you will get better "people pictures". We will do this inside and out. We will later add flash. You van use the built in flash on your camera or even better, use an attachable flash/ Speedlight.

Around "mid morning" will be the time to start to edit the images we have captured. Workflow/ editing is important and we will try to get the best out of Photoshop, Lightroom or Aperture. Bring your laptop with either Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom or Aperture installed. Most of these software packages can be downloaded for free on a 30 day trial from www.adobe.com.

12:30 Lunch

14:00 We will continue after lunch with photography. The focus now will be to create our own "studio" using very basic and accessible props. Again, we will mix flash and available light. The point here though is reach great results and that you can do this at home as well.

We will finish the day by editing the afternoons photography and then creating a slideshow or critique session where we look at the days work.

This is a fun and very hands on workshop which require little knowledge of photography. We will however not be covering the very basics- I will assume you are fairly familiar with how to run the camera in Manual mode.
Bring your digital SLR camera, a laptop with Photoshop (or similar) and the camera instruction book (if you do not know your camera well!).

17:00 Finish at Hotel

Price for the whole day, including lunch at the hotel + morning and afternoon coffees is CHF 450

Paris- Lady with dog

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the year, I offer a number of different workshops for the beginner as well as the experienced photographer. These are typically held in Geneva, London and Paris but can be set up other places as well. Below are some examples of the more popular workshop. Topics are often based on events during the year. Example is the workshop I run in Paris around Paris Photo. Topics are often purpose made to fit the needs, so contact me should you have special request regarding workshops.

Workshops can be run on a one to one basis or in groups. Maximum group size is recommended to be 6 participants. Prices are based on number of participants and the length of the workshop. I will give you a quote based on your request.

Workshop examples:

I. The Basics: how does the new camera work and how can I make better pictures. You learn how the features of your camera work as well as how to use a camera in manual mode. That is how you get better pictures.

II. The Basics in Photoshop: Here we look into how to process your pictures and make them look great. We also look at the different picture formats and to prepare your images for the internet as well as printing.

III. Photo Journalism & Travel: On this course we focus on making picture stories, this could be telling the story of a family holiday or making a story for a school paper. The principles are the same.

IV. Studio on location: Modern flash guns are great, on this workshop we learn how to use them- most people will be surprised to realize that a flash can and perhaps should be used more often.

Should you be interested in a BA degree in photojournalism, then I would suggest to contact Webster University in Geneva. I teach photo journalism courses there too.
